engraving and etching

We offer custom engraving and cutting services for businesses and individuals.

Customisation: Adding personalisation to existing items.

As example of this is when we modified standard Opinel knives (see image) with custom branding. A batch was created for an end of season gift for the team members of the Santa Cruz Syndicate DH MTB race team, as a keepsake to remember a successful years racing. Another batch went out to be included in the ‘Thank You’ packs for the riders, production staff and friends of the 2023 snowboard movie Left Right. These small, inexpensive items really add a sense of quality to any promotional or gift items you wish to give.

Signage: Physical items in a digital world.

Another example of one of our favourite uses of laser engraving is making signage and way-finding out of wood, rather than in some cases using the classic sheet of laminated paper.
Although more expensive than the ol’ A4 sheet taped to the wall, the difference between having an engraved plaque of wood with information for customers is worth its weight in gold. People might not even notice the little differences. But cumulatively and subconsciously these little touches matter. And to be able to have signage that matches the brand guidelines of your company in aesthetically pleasing materials, is a step above your competitors.

Laser engraving was our first service at Ninja Laser and inspired our company name. Though we’ve diversified, it remains central to our business and hearts.

Laser engraving works like a printer, removing material instead of adding it. By controlling the laser’s power, we can vary the amount of material removed or even cut through it.

Applications for laser engraving are vast, from etching part numbers on SpaceX engine components to hair removal (though we don't offer these services). Our services are expanding, so maybe one day.

We specialize in cutting and engraving organic materials like wood, leather, and some plastics. Engraving metal requires different machines and wavelengths, which we may explore in the future. For now, we're focused on the extensive options available with our current technology.

Our Favourite mediums

Reclaimed Wood

We strive to use reclaimed wood as much as possible because it is the most sustainable and eco-friendly choice. Reclaimed wood refers to salvaged timber from old buildings and barns, as well as waste from construction sites that would otherwise be discarded. By repurposing this wood, we can create unique and character-filled pieces while reducing the demand for new timber.

Leather

Leather is an ideal material for laser engraving. It can be used to personalize existing items like wallets and bags, as well as create badges or patches. Laser engraving on leather produces precise and intricate designs, adding uniqueness and sophistication. The process ensures high-quality and long-lasting results.

Oak

Oak is highly valued in carpentry and laser engraving for its strength, durability, and beautiful grain. It is a hardwood that provides sturdy structures and resists rot and insects. When laser engraved, oak's dense grain allows for precise and detailed designs, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of furniture, decorative items, and personalized gifts.

Pine

Pine, our abundant local wood, is cherished in traditional carpentry. With its availability and versatility, it has been used for generations in various projects. Pine's softness allows for intricate designs, showcasing its beautiful grain structures. Laser engraving on pine creates a charming contrast between engraved and lighter areas, resulting in visually appealing creations.

HDU Foam

HDU foam, or High-Density Urethane foam, is a favoured material due to its versatility. This lightweight and durable foam can be easily shaped, carved, and engraved, making it perfect for creating intricate and detailed signs. HDU foam's versatility and engraving capabilities make it a popular choice for signage.

AluPanel & Composites

Theres a whole world of multilayer composite panels that can be manipulated for your businesses signage and wayfinding needs. Light, strong, waterproof and inexpensive. Modern composite panels provide solutions when traditional materials are not suitable.
